From peat bogs to crested newts......we have it covered !

The taxing terrain of a sodden peat bog was just one in a myriad of problems to be overcome by Land-Drill in a demanding but satisfying project just completed for delighted customer Transco in Central Scotland. The remit of the site investigation included trial pits running alongside drilling work, showcasing a wide range of Land-Drill's services.

This tremendously soft peat, which has proved to be inaccessible for other conventional plant, was mastered with the help of Land-Drill's ever adaptable Hagglund BV206 all-terrain vehicles. Land-Drill harnessed the low ground pressure of the Hagglunds with their full array of drilling rigs in order to get the  job done, the Competitor 150 hydraulic percussive rig was rolled out along with both Shell & Auger and Rotary plant, all pressed into service in order to beat a tight schedule.

Land-Drill's first task was to set up a site compound amidst 24hour site security in an area that included protected wildlife species which had to remain undisturbed at all times. This was only the first of many considerations that Land-Drill had to take on board. The difficulties presented by drilling through backfilled areas of an open-cast mine for the demanding re-alignment of a high pressure Gas main, meant Operations Director Donald Mackenzie didn't have his problems to seek. An engineering decision was made by consultants Jacobs to utilise the larger PWF system with its 87mm core instead of the usual 412 to give a better chance of recovery from the weathered rock. This proved to be an inspired choice for the conditions.

After all the invasive work was completed, the site was restored to its original condition and the undisturbed crested newts went about their business, totally oblivious to the fact that Land-Drill had ever been there.
